The SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia is scheduled to open on Thursday, the 23rd of September and will be the first gambling hall in the state. Blackjack players are excited over the opening of the casino, while the groups and neighborhood organizations that opposed the move will have to accept the change. The SugarHouse Casino is expected to draw about 2 million players per year and will be open 24 hours per day.

One of the groups that strongly opposed the SugarHouse Casino was the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association. However, they appear to have accepted the decision and plan to monitor the casino.

Meanwhile, other groups are excited about the new casino which will bring blackjack, roulette, baccarat and other casino games to players in the region. Joe Rafter, the chairman of the Penn Treaty Special Services District commented on the matter saying, “We’re all real excited… Our whole attitude is, ‘This is the neighborhood it’s in. Let this be a stimulus.’”

The casino will bring in $1 million a year and has already made its first payment of $175,000 that has already helped improve several situations. SugarHouse Casino has also employed 800 workers 20 percent of whom are from the nearby districts.
